TIPTOP
(Time Inc. Production Training and Orientation Program)

The TIPTOP trainee will work within the Production community of Time Inc. This community consists of two groups:

  • Magazine Title Production Departments
  • Central Production

The Magazine Title Production Departments perform the week-to-week activities connected with the manufacturing of magazines including TIME, Sports Illustrated, Sports Illustrated for Kids, In Style, Real Simple, People, Teen People, People en Español, Entertainment Weekly, Fortune, Money, and Parenting. Each Magazine Title Production Department is primarily responsible for issue makeup planning, trafficking advertising and editorial materials, and communicating manufacturing instructions to the printing plants. The Central Production group is involved with functions such as purchasing paper and printing services, purchasing of postage, managing relations with the US Postal Service, quality control, and cross-title systems development projects. Both title production and central production possess financial staffs as well.

TIPTOP PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The TIPTOP trainee will initially be placed within either a Magazine Title Production Department or within a Central Production Department. The TIPTOP Program is a full-time, benefits eligible, rotational program. The length of stay for the first assignment is expected to be six months, but could be longer or shorter, depending on the needs of the department and the trainee. An important part of the first assignment will be training and orientation including most or all of the following:

  • Introduction to the production staff training in magazine manufacturing processes
  • Visits to printing plants, paper mills, and distribution facilities

A second, and perhaps a third assignment for the trainee will follow the first assignment. However, at any time after the first assignment the trainee will be eligible to accept a permanent position with the department he or she is assigned to or with another department within the Time Inc. Production community. It is expected that the trainee will be placed in a permanent position within 6 -18 months.
